HONEST ALERT: I don’t feel beautiful ALL the time. Who does? I bet Lady Gaga has those days too when she don’t feel like her A game…
Guess it’s kind of old to say “we all sometimes feel the pressure to look a certain way or are not happy the way we are feeling about our appearance because of the media etc.” But I’m still writing it down here ’cause it’s still the unfortunate reality for many of us. We maybe want to please others or just ourselves. I’ve noticed that when it comes to confidence and feeling beautiful I’m really my own worst enemy.
Being beautiful is most of all a feeling.
Having confidence and feeling beautiful really go hand-in-hand. This is why my list contains a lot of handy tips to also build up your confidence. Even though you may have a great self-esteem it’s really good to remind yourself once in a while about how important these little things are. Also bear in mind that these are just my own tips for myself and all of these may not work for you but I’m sharing these ’cause it just might help you today.
Before getting to my tips on how I feel beautiful I’d like to share the most basic things that I personally need before any of my other tips would even begin to work!
Getting enough sleep
Drinking lots of water
Now on to the tips:
1. Smile and give yourself compliments
It’s so weird how easy it is to give someone else a compliment but not being able to say the same thing to yourself. This tip can work however you want it to and you can modify it to your liking. You can use a mirror or just go to a quiet place where you are not being disturbed. Then just smile. It’s really that simple. Smile to yourself and either out loud or in your mind give yourself compliments or if it seems hard to find multiple things just start with one. It can be anything from “My outfit is really on point today” to just simply “I’m beautiful”. Say anything that needs the most attention.
2. Be without makeup
The power of makeup is real. It has the power to change our appearance, enhance our features or even create a piece of art. It also has the power of making you feel less beautiful when you are not wearing it. If this is the case then I suggest that you stop wearing makeup for awhile. Sometimes after a period of wearing a lot of makeup I wash my face and don’t feel as beautiful as the second before I washed my face. ‘Cause I got used to seeing my face full glam on and when I washed my face it didn’t look “normal” and so I felt less beautiful. But when I tried to be without makeup for a week or so I got used to seeing myself without makeup and therefore the “normal” got back to where it should be.
3. Dress up
Same as makeup, clothing has a significant impact on how we feel about ourselves and how others perceive us. Let’s say I’ve worn baggy pants and some old sweatshirt for days in a row ( based on true events ) I’m gonna feel like the clothes I’m wearing: kinda worn out and baggy. Don’t get me wrong I love comfortable clothing but if I want to boost my confidence and feel like the best version of me I’m not going to wear that combination for long period of time. Putting on a sharp blazer or getting my favorite dress on is kind of telling myself that I’m worthy of looking my best at all times.
I think there is no such thing as overdressing.
This is probably my favorite tip! I love to dance and even though I don’t go to classes anymore like I used to I still dance almost everyday. This is almost like the basic exercise stuff I shared in the beginning of this post but it’s still something extra. This takes me about 5-30 minutes or as long as I like! I put on some music that makes me feel happy or sexy and then I just jam. When those famous endorphins start to hit my brain and I brake a sweat I’ll feel totally different about myself than before I started. If you haven’t tried this out I highly recommend.
5. Try something different
Seriously. Please. Just do it. It’s no surprise that when I’ve been wearing the same clothes and done my makeup with the same routine over and over again, I’m gonna feel bored. But when I try something different it changes everything. It’s exciting and it makes me look at myself in a different perspective. And if the different didn’t work I can always go back. I did this all the time in secondary school! I remember someone really came up to me and said “Meeri could you just please make up your mind about your style?” ‘Cause I was experimenting with my clothing and where I felt the most beautiful in. Each day was different so obviously the same things and style didn’t work everyday.
I think we tend to feel more beautiful when there is something new and exciting on us. This can apply to anything you want. Break up the routines and try something new. Like a fresh haircut or a piece of jewelry that you haven’t tried ( like I bought fake septum ). The options are infinite.
I’m just gonna leave it there.

Yes. We all know now. Donald Trump is the 45th president of the United States of America. And I’m a Finnish citizen. Why would I care? Could I care? Should I care?
I’m not much of an expert of politics and to be honest I find it kind of hard to follow ( and I think that’s the whole point of it ) and many of my friends seem to know more about it than I do but I still feel that this is a subject I need to address.
Someone said that Democracy is currently the best option we have but is it really best of our interest to give our power to a handful of people and just hope for the best? Specially when it almost like 50/50 situation like in this presidential election. HALF of the population in America feels that Democracy let them down.
This all just messes up with my head ’cause me and like many others have begun this spiritual journey and kind of getting out of the system but still are not 100% out of it. So all of this media rumble of who is the next president seems important but really silly at the same time. It all comes down to one question:
Will this affect me?
I would be crazy if I’d said no.
Why do we need leaders to lead countries? It is because there are so many things to do that we just couldn’t survive without? Democracy is really the best option and you just cannot argue with that? That there couldn’t be another choice even a better choice maybe? ‘Cause we need countries? And then of course we need people to be in charge of these countries…
Even before this election I’ve wondered why do we need countries? These boarders to isolate ourselves? I’ve wrote about isolation when my friend got assaulted ( voit lukea postauksen täältä ) and I came to the conclusion that because our mentalities are set in mode: us vs. them we cannot feel real sympathy towards them and therefore we don’t understand them. Then it’s easier to act violently towards others if they do something different from us. Just imagine how awesome it would be just to go places without passports and visas! To roam free. Live where you want, work where you want and the whole world would be your home! Someone would say it’s impossible and too hippy to even work. But seriously why not? I am a citizen of the world like everyone else.
Why do I need to feel proud about a land that I happened to born in? Or feel ashamed? Why it is so encouraged to isolate ourselves from the world? Like saying that Americans are stupid because they voted for Trump and luckily I’m Finnish? And just to give you another example: why it’s such a big news that Saara Aalto from Finland is competing in X Factor UK? Like it’s literally just a music competition to find new singing talent…
Let us not isolate ourselves.
This post got really out of hand but if you made it all the way through I would really like to hear your opinion! This post covers just my thoughts on all of this and it really just touches the surface. Leave a comment below ’cause I would love to discuss more of these topics.
I feel that we just need to stay positive and thrive like we used to have. There is nothing we can do about Trump being the president. So why argue about it? I know that this media shitstorm is gonna last for awhile but soon we will see what it really means when Trump is in charge.

These few weeks have been crazy. I’ve been super productive and then again the laziest person in town. I have a history of being a perfectionist, being really hard on myself and overanalyzing things. Anyone can relate? Anyways those things don’t work when you are really trying to get things done. ‘Cause perfectionism is really just a form a procrastination…
I’m applying for schools here in Miami. I didn’t mention that in my last post on purpose. First I thought I wouldn’t share that here ’cause I felt that if I fail I might be blaming myself for shouting out my dreams to the public and therefore ruining my chances.
But there I was overanalyzing again 😀
I dream big. Always have and always will. But dreams will just be dreams if you don’t do anything about it. I’m trying to do something about it but when nothing is certain the idea creeps out like “what if this is not enough”. I’m breaking my brains with this overanalyzing. I know nothing and it freaks me out. Like I said nothing is certain but then again nothing is impossible.
But what is up other than overanalyzing everything–>
We spent a long weekend in Fort Lauderdale in an Airbnb apartment. It was my first experience in Airbnb and I’m just gonna say thank you future and technology for making these kind of things so easy. Like Airbnb is basically ordinary people giving their home or spare room for your use inexpensively (or at least that’s what I’m looking for). Why not! And some of these places are really like hotels.
Same thing with Uber which is still
kinda illegal in Finland. Ordinary people driving cars and getting you from A to B with lot less money than you would use by taking a taxi. Like yes please! Because here in Miami you really need a car to get places.
Overall I’ve enjoyed my time here in Miami so far. Time really flies by in here. Been watching people’s photos on Instagram and I gotta say at this point I’m not looking forward returning to Finland 😀

We spent a weekend in Ft. Lauderdale and I made this little video where I share what I ate and wore over those couple of days.
When traveling it sometimes hard to stay ‘super healthy’ and so chips and cookies are the reality for me. If you have any tips on how to eat more healthy while traveling please let me know! But in this video I’m really sharing the things that I eat on a holiday! There’s a lot of sodium going on but occasionally some fruits will hit my stomach.
One place that we ate twice was called Ocean View Delight. First we were going to get food from Wholefoods (which we actually did on the next day) but since Henu spotted the “vegan menu” sign, we had to check the place out. We ate these delicious ( and greasy ) wraps and the service was super nice!
Overall I’m not saying that what I ate was really bad ’cause it was still vegan and no animals were harmed.
So if you’re still thinking that every vegan is healthy as fuck that is not the case 😀
